Thanks Nachum!
The Spring indoor sports have reached their postseason stages, which means that another round of championships is not too far behind. Straight ahead on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, we’ll set the stage for the playoff brackets that have already began and we’ll update you on where the diamond sports are as they too head toward the knockout rounds. All that and more, good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
Boys Soccer is where we’ll start as North Shore could not wrap up the Varsity East, taking an 18-11 loss to HANC, dropping the Lions to 2nd in the East and wrapping the 4 spot up for the Hurricanes. As a result DRS will take the East #1 and will meet up with Ramaz on Thursday, the same night as the other matchup on their side of the bracket Rambam and West #2 TABC. The other two games, West Champion Frisch against the aforementioned HANC Hurricanes will be tonight in Paramus and North Shore will host Kushner tomorrow.
Girls Varsity Soccer will also start tomorrow night with undefeated East champion SKA taking on Heschel. The Sonics wrapped up their season with a close 7-4 victory over Central who settled into the East #4 seed and will meet up with undefeated West Champion Frisch on Wednesday. West #2 Ma’ayanot will meet up with North Shore on Thursday and HAFTR and Kushner will play their contest next week.
Boys Volleyball saw Ramaz get back on track and obliterate Flatbush in 3 sets to remain the only undefeated team in the league. Ramaz and Flatbush will be the 1 and 2 respectively and await the winner of HAFTR- SAR and TABC, a 3 sets to 1 winner over Magen David last night in Brooklyn.
In Girls Varsity Hockey, the defending champion Frisch Cougars put their stamp on the West with a 4-1 win over SAR. The outcome gives Frisch the 1 seed and a bye along with East champion HAFTR at #2. But with Ramaz’s 3-1 win over Ma’ayanot last week, the Sting dropped to #4 where a date with #5 Heschel and a possible rematch with Frisch in the semis looms on the horizon. Speaking of rematches, Ramaz and Ma’ayanot would kick off the playoffs this past Sunday as the 3 seed Rams advanced with a 2-1 win and will travel to HAFTR with a berth in the finals on the line.
Heading outdoors to Boys Softball where YDE and Hillel have wrapped up the Central and West divisions respectively. Hillel swept 4 games this past week over MTA, Frisch, SAR and Magen David, giving up only 1 run in the combined contests to improve to 7-0. In the East, though, a deadlock at the top as Netzach Hatorah knocks off MAY 8-1 to improve to 7-1 and Darchai Torah takes two off MAY on the same day to reach the same mark in a tie atop the division.
In Girls Varsity, an old powerhouse has reappeared atop the boards, as Central stands at 6-0. The Wildcats can wrap up the East with a win tonight over Magen David. Meanwhile, out West, Hillel improves to 6-0-1 with a hard-fought win over contender Bruriah 6-5.
Finally, in Baseball, DRS has roared to the top of the East with a record of 6-1. Their only blemish, a 1-run loss to MTA who sits at the bottom of the West, making this a year where anyone can truly top anyone on the road to the finals. The loss now leaves SAR as the only remaining undefeated team in the league, currently atop the West at 6-0, but a date with 5-1 Frisch looming in a game that could decide the division.
And that was your Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
