The full transcript of this morning’s update is below.
Thanks Nachum,
It is the last day of October and we have completed one full week of competition in the Metropolitan Yeshiva High School Leagues. Today on the kickoff edition of the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, SAR sports enjoys some sweet home cooking, Frisch Varsity hockey starts on the long road back and the boys from Waterbury, Connecticut play their first Yeshiva League Varsity Basketball game, and get their first win. All that and more straight ahead, good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
The Hive at SAR has always been one of the more daunting places to play, regardless of hockey or basketball and the first week of action has only served to heighten the buzz up in Riverdale. Through last night, SAR has played host to six games across the 5 leagues and has flown away with the victory in each one. Varsity hockey kicked off with their win over Westchester last week, while JV hockey posted two wins themselves, defeating HANC last week and upending last week’s surprise team, North Shore, 5-0, last night behind Sophomore Adam Freilich’s Hat Trick and Sophomore Ethan From’s shutout. On the hardwood, Varsity boys basketball dropped TABC 61-41 and both JV and Varsity girls’ basketball teams posted victories as well, sweeping Maayanot this past Thursday.
The Sting weren’t the only West team to start off their season. Last year’s Varsity Hockey runners-up, the Frisch Cougars opened up their season on the road last Wednesday night and came perilously close to falling victim to the Ramaz floor. However, senior Charlie Bendheim would ensure that the Cougar season started off on the right note, scoring the game’s only goal, as Senior goalie Charlie Freilich posted the shutout. The Cougars followed that game up with a 6-0 over Kushner this past Saturday night.
Speaking of Kushner, the Kushner Cobras Varsity basketball team had the honor of welcoming the Waterbury Yeshiva Wolfpack to the MYHSAL. Junior big-man Gabe Plotzker posted a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. However, it would not be enough as the “Connecticut Yankees” showed that being new to the league does not mean an easy W, as Senior Dovid Reiser dropped 14 to give the Constitution State its first Yeshiva League season victory.
