Thanks Nachum,
After last night and last week, I feel like the Tuesday Morning Sports Update is turning into the Tuesday morning meteorlogical report. For the second week in a row, a Monday weather occurrence wiped out a full slate of games, leaving much up in the air in regards to the playoffs. But plenty of action still went on in the last 5 days, so thankfully, we have much to discuss , including another showdown between HAFTR and DRS hockey, and the top 4 basketball teams in the nation take the court. With your Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update. I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
Motzai Shabbos saw the top two teams in the Varsity Hockey Eastern Division meet up with HAFTR taking on DRS in their final showdown of the regular season. DRS got on the board first four minutes into the game on an Ethan Felder shot that beat HAFTR goalie Ryan Gluck short-side for the 1-0 lead. The teams would trade goals with Sam Schechter scoring for HAFTR, Moshe Genuth for DRS, Jake Berger for HAFTR, Eitan Aryeh for DRS with a beautiful shorthanded breakaway, and with under 2 minutes to go a HAFTR equalizer from Gilad Kerstein to knot the game at 3, and for what seems like a tradition with these two, we went to Overtime. Let’s take you back to last year’s championship game which went to Overtime with HAFTR overcoming DRS to take the crown 2-1. In this one though, DRS would have their revenge. In 3 on 3 action, Moshe Genuth would find a seam to the net and send one to the opposite post for the 4-3 win. The victory now puts the fate of the East in DRS’ hands with their final game against TABC on Thursday night, but as we’re growing accustomed to saying lately, weather permitting.
In Varsity basketball, the top 4 teams in the nation, Frisch, DRS, HAFTR and North Shore were all in action this week with #1 Frisch battling #2 DRS and #3 HAFTR taking on #4 North Shore. For Frisch and HAFTR, the games did not mean anything to the playoffs, but it certainly meant a ton in keeping their chances at an undefeated season alive. Both walked away with wins, both with five-point victories, both with top seeds and both knowing that by the end of it all, at least one of them will have their undefeated streak snapped and their championship hopes dashed, as there can be only one survivor when it’s all over with.
There are, however, ten other teams who would like to have a word in the matter, as well as teams from all across the hockey and basketball leagues that will look to either continue their performances and/or defy the odds once the playoffs begin. Who are these teams? Tune in to the Encore presentation of the Court Report tonight at 7PM to hear the latest news on who is in, who is out and who is on the bubble. Considering there were no games last night, everything is still as it was on Sunday when everyone was listening to the Kosher Halftime Show. We almost had a scare in that it looked as if the full broadcast would not get done before Halftime, but the Patriots and Seahawks cooperated by putting together scoring drives in the last 2 minutes of the half to allow us to JUST sneak it in. Too busy watching the big game to listen to the Court Report, do it tonight at 7, only on the stream, Nachumsegal.com
And that was your Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I need to go chisel my car out of the block of ice in my driveway.
