Nachum welcomed Rabbi Eliyahu Teitz, Associate Dean the Jewish Educational Center’s (JEC) to this morning’s JM in the AM to discuss his taking on the challenge to live off a food budget of $30 for a full week. The object was to experience what it is like to subsist for one week on the same food budget as a SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program) recipient, currently $30 on average. The purpose of the challenge was to raise awareness of and sensitivity to the plight of those dependent on this program–including the families who apply for tuition assistance at local day schools and yeshivot. Nachum and Rabbi Teitz talked about how the challenge went and some important lessons that have been learned from the experience. Visit the JEC website here.
