In anticipation of the holiday of Purim, Nachum welcomed Rabbi Menachem Genack, CEO of the Orthodox Union’s (OU) kosher division and spiritual leader of Cong. Shomrei Emunah in Englewood, NJ to this morning’s JM in the AM to explore the new OU Press/Koren Publishers Jerusalem co-publication, “Megillat Esther Mesorat HaRav: Commentary Based on the Teachings of Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik.” From the OU Press website: “Megillat Esther Mesorat HaRav contains the text of Megillat Esther with a running commentary drawn from the teachings of Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik, collected from a variety of published writings, notes and lectures, and a new, contemporary translation by Jessica Sacks. Co-published by OU Press and Koren Publishers Jerusalem.
Rabbi Soloveitchik, known to all as “the Rav,” was a towering rabbinic figure of the twentieth century, whose dazzling brilliance and profound philosophical insight left an enduring impact on Jewry in America and around the world. Rabbi Soloveitchik finds in the Megillah not only a story of political intrigue but a timeless drama of Jewish, and indeed human, existence. In addition, this volume also includes the Ma’ariv service for Purim, a section of Reshimot, and a derasha by the Rav on the nature of Purim.”
