Thanks Nachum,
While the weather in Atlanta may be heading down toward the freezing mark, back up here, the road to the postseason has reached a fever pitch, as we enter the final week of the regular season for five of the seven leagues. Today on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, we roll through the week ahead and what is on the line, as we rumble toward the MYHSAL playoffs. All that and more, straight ahead! Good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
We’ll start off with Varsity hockey, where one game has already occurred since returning from the break. The Frisch Cougars knocked off the Ramaz Rams, last night, to put the cap on their perfect 14-0 regular season. The Cougars already know that they will be the top seed in the West and will await the winner of the East #4 seed, Rambam vs. West #5 play-in game. That West #5 seed will be determined this week, as Kushner and SAR square off, this Saturday night, with the loser heading to Rambam, while the winner will take the West #4 seed and will host the East #5 seed. That East #5 seed will come down to tomorrow night’s contest, between HANC and North Shore. If HANC wins, they will earn the East #5 spot. Any other result and that spot will belong to the Magen David Warriors.
Moving over to JV Hockey now, where the West playoff spots come down to two games to sort out all seeds. Wednesday night will see the marquee showdown between the top two teams, the Kushner Cobras and the TABC Storm, to determine the #1 seed. For TABC to take the crown, they will need to defeat the Cobras in regulation. Any other result and Kushner will take their first ever JV Western division title. Thursday night will see the 3rd and 4th seeds in the West, as well as the final playoff spot in the East, decided, as Ramaz will take on Flatbush. A Rams win or tie will give them the #3 seed. Any other result and it will belong to the SAR Sting. For Flatbush a win will do the same for them out East. A loss, though, and, they will need help to make the postseason.
Want to know more? Stay tuned and I’ll tell you how to find out about every possibility for each team still in the hunt for the JV and Varsity Hockey Playoffs.
Now on to basketball, where the JV league in the West is almost wrapped up. SAR and MTA have grabbed the top two spots. Frisch and TABC will host the first-round contests against either Heschel or Ramaz, with all 4 teams awaiting the TABC- Ramaz game tomorrow night, and the MTA- Heschel game on Monday night. TABC and Heschel have the advantage, and know that wins will give them the higher seeds, over Frisch and Ramaz, respectively. Any other results and things can get real interesting. Just to point out, though, a TABC win over Ramaz, will set up a first-round game between the two teams, again, next week. Over in the East, no seeds are locked, but the way the division turns out will have almost everything to do with the Magen David Warriors. With two games left, including one against DRS, this Saturday night, everyone will look to their games for some clarity as to where they will wind up this postseason.
Varsity Basketball, on the other hand, is a mess that will need another week to work out. 18 teams are still in play for the 12 playoff spots, including every single team in the West. With 14 games between now and next Monday, including a massive showdown between Magen David and DRS, on Saturday night, by the time the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update rolls around, next week, we will have a much clearer picture regarding the postseason.
