Thanks Nachum!
Straight ahead on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update we resume our coverage of the 2024 Spring sports seasons. We’ll take you to Girls Hockey where the West looks to stay best, SAR sits atop JV Soccer and we’ll get into the swing of things on the diamond. All that and more, good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
Girls Hockey has ramped itself up over the past two weeks. Most teams have quickly reached or are approaching the midway point of the 8-game season. Three teams remain undefeated, all from the Western Conference. Heschel leads the league at 4-0-1, it’s only blemish, a 3-3 tie to Ramaz, while behind the Heat are Frisch and SAR, both currently at 3-0 and hoping for a rematch of last year’ championship. While not undefeated, Ma’ayanot and Kushner also sit at the 3-win mark and are in better playoff position than any East teams. Ma’ayanot hit the 3-1 mark following a 3-1 win over HAFTR last night. The loss for HAFTR, its second in a two-day stretch after falling to SKA on Sunday 3-2. HANC currently leads the East at 2-1, that following its 3-0 win over Central last night in Queens.
Moving over to JV Soccer where the SAR Sting have set the pace on both the boys and girls scenes. The Boys JV club is 5-0 and averaging 15 goals a game, recently knocking Frisch from the ranks of the undefeated in a 14-10 barn-burner. The Sting will play YDE next Tuesday and will await to see whether their contest against TABC in the first week of May will be a battle of the undefeated. TABC, currently at 3-0 will battle Frisch this coming Sunday. The Storm narrowly edged Heschel 9-8 in Teaneck last night. On the Girls JV end, the Sting are 4-0, outscoring opponents 20-1 in its first three games prior to its 9-7 victory over last year’s runners up Ma’ayanot. The Sting will square off with 3-0 Frisch tomorrow night. The defending champions Cougars have been dominant so far, yielding only 3 goals in its first 3 matches combined.
Moving outdoors for the first time this year, last year’s Varsity Softball runners up, the MAY Eagles are hard at work trying to erase its shortcomings, jumping out to a 4-0 record, defeating HAFTR and DRS on Friday and sweeping HANC on Sunday, shutting out the Hurricanes in both contests. Most other teams are just getting into the swing of their season, but MAY looks primed and ready to make a run back to the top of the league. The same can be said for both combatants in last year’s Girls softball finals. Runner up Hillel leads the West at 3-0 while defending champion Frisch sits at 2-0. Both will be in action this coming Sunday, with the Heat taking on Ma’ayanot and the Cougars facing Naaleh.
Next week, we’ll take a look at how things are shaping up in Baseball, where defending champion Frisch is already looking like the team to beat.
And that was your Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
