Nachum welcomed Rabbi Joel Grossman to this morning’s JM in the AM to explore his captivating new book “Moreh Tefilla: Davening Shemoneh Esrei With Meaning.”
From the books Amazon page:
Moreh Tefilla explores the beauty of Shemoneh Esrei and aims to enhance the reader’s personal prayer. When the Anshei Knesses HaGedolah composed the Shemoneh Esrei, the order of the brachos was chosen intentionally, and each word was written for a specific purpose. In this sefer, Rabbi Grossman takes us on a journey through the entire Shemoneh Esrei, explaining these ideas along with practical examples from his own life.
Rabbi Joel Grossman has dedicated his life to chinuch. As a young man, Rabbi Grossman understood the idea of “Aseh lecha rav” and took it to heart, developing a relationship with Rav Moshe Feinstein who instilled his love for Torah and tefilla.
As well, Rabbi Grossman developed a relationship with Rav Yosef Dov Soloveitchik and received his Yoreh Yoreh smicha from Rav Soloveitchik in 1983., and his Yadin Yadin smicha in 1985. Being in the company of the leaders of Bnei Yisroel enabled him not only to learn their Torah but to see how the Gedolei Hador put their Torah in practice. The impression he received from witnessing their modesty, their passion in praying to Hashem, and their love for every Jew inspired him in his approach to transmitting the joy of learning, performing mitzvos, and davening to Hashem. All this he led by example.
Rabbi Grossman started his chinuch journey in MTA, and then went on to become the beloved Rebbi at the Torah Academy of Bergen County (TABC) for twenty nine years. There he became known as the rabbi who could teach any student and explain the most complicated concept in the simplest manner. Today, Rabbi Grossman divides his time between Miami Beach, Florida, and Monsey, New York. He continues to give shiurim and to learn with individuals.
