Thanks Nachum!
Just as quickly as Spring sports have begun, the month of May brings us within inches of the playoffs. Today on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, JV soccer’s postseason has been determined, with varsity boys and girls not too far behind, Girls Hockey has their top spot decided and Boys Softball defending champs are on the verge of locking down theirs as well. All that and more straight ahead, good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
In Boys Soccer, the eight playoff teams have been decided with the top 3 seeds locked in. SAR, TABC and North Shore have each won their divisions and will be 1-3 in that order in the postseason. Ramaz, Frisch and HANC all took wins this past week to finish at 6-2 and depending on how the tiebreakers fall out, will place 4-6, meanwhile, DRS and Kushner finish with 10 points and know that they will either face SAR or TABC in the first round.
Girls Soccer is a little more undecided, as each of the 3 division winners have finished at 8-0 and will need tiebreakers to determine their seeding. Kushner finishes in the 4 seed but will need to wait to see how tiebreakers shake out between North Shore, Ramaz and possibly Heschel to find out their opponent. Ma’ayanot has also earned a berth and will need to wait to see how the top 3 shake out to know where they will be playing in Round 1.
The JV league playoffs have been decided. In Boys JV #1 Frisch will host #4 North Shore and #2 TABC will take on #3 SAR. Frisch’s 6-3 win over TABC last week locked up the top spot for the Cougars. In Girls JV Frisch and North Shore will square off as well with the same seedings, while Maayanot in the #2 will host #3 SAR.
In Girls Hockey, a clear #1 has emerged as the Frisch Cougars have finished the regular season undefeated following a 3-1 win over SAR last night. The win, gives Frisch the top seed in the upcoming playoffs and relegates the Sting, now 7-1, to 2nd place in the Western division. In the East, HAFTR took two wins to up their record to 4-4. The results have put HAFTR on the edge of a playoff berth, depending on what happens in the remaining contests this week featuring Central and their matchups with SKA and Ramaz.
In Boys Softball, MAY can clinch the East with a win over Darchei this coming Friday and can clinch the top spot in the postseason with a sweep. Meanwhile, clear divides have formed between the top and bottom of all three divisions, as MAY and HANC have 6 wins in the East, 4 ahead of Darchei, Magen David and YDE each have 5 wins in the Central, 3 ahead of Flatbush and Zichron Paltiel, and Hillel, Heichel and Keter Torah all have 5 wins out West with the Central and West still up for grabs heading into the final week.
And that was your Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m Elliot Weiselberg!
