Nachum welcomed Dr. Jeffrey Lichtman, Professor and Lucille Weidman Chair of the Newly-Established Graduate Program in Jewish General and Special Education at Touro College, to this morning’s JM in the AM. They discussed the following topics:
- Parents have newfound respect for teachers over the last few months, as the pandemic has compelled even the youngest students to log on to zoom to learn and teachers have had to engage them and teach under extraordinarily trying circumstances.
- While technology has been essential in our current situation, there is no substitute for the personal connection when it comes to education. Teachers who have passion and care about children change lives. On top of passion and concern, teachers require proper training. There is a huge difference between what a trained teacher can accomplish and one who is not trained.
- The frum community is realizing the need to train our rebbeim and teachers so that we can best meet the needs of our students –both general and special ed. Dr. Lichtman is running this new masters program at Touro to ensure that students get the best education possible.
