Nachum welcomed Andrew Goldsmith, Executive Vice President of AMIT, to this morning’s JM in the AM for an AMIT update. From the AMIT website: “AMIT enables Israel’s youth to realize their potential, and strengthens Israeli society by educating and nurturing children from diverse backgrounds within a framework of academic excellence, Jewish values, and Zionist ideals.
In its almost 95 years, AMIT has had a transformative impact on the Israeli educational landscape that extends far beyond its schools and students. Founded in 1925, AMIT educates 35,000 kids in 110 schools, youth villages, surrogate family residences and other programs in 33 cities, constituting Israel’s only government-recognized network of religious Jewish education incorporating academic and technological studies. Two-thirds of AMIT students come from socioeconomically disadvantaged communities or development towns (referred to in Israel as “the periphery”). AMIT enables these kids to dream big by substantially reducing the gaps between them and those in more well-off cities and towns in central Israel. AMIT levels the playing field for them by providing the highest quality interactive education, additional tutoring hours, emotional support and encouragement, and cutting-edge teaching techniques. This is what the largest portion of donor monies goes to.”
