Thanks Nachum,
We’ve finally hit the madness that is the month of March, folks, and that means Final 4 time! All four leagues have pared themselves down to just 4 teams over the past week and with a ton of action packed into the next few days, we’re ready for a wild ride! Good morning everyone and welcome to the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
Let’s start off with varsity hockey, which only rounded out its final 4 last night. Over the last week, TABC, HAFTR and Frisch all punched tickets to the semifinals and last night the three were joined by DRS. The Wildcats took on and defeated Ramaz 4-0 in the Greenhouse feeding off of goals by David Soffer, Sammy Rauch and two from Avi Genachowski in order, the last 3 coming on either the powerplay or 2 on 2 action. DRS netminder Ari Guttenmacher recorded the shutout. DRS will now host Frisch over the coming week, while HAFTR will travel to TABC in the other semifinal next Monday
In JV, the two semifinal games will both take place tomorrow night. These games will take on an intra-divisional flare, something unusual given the setup of the playoff brackets. In one semifinal, Eastern Champion Rambam will host the East #3 seed HAFTR at 7:30. In the other, Western Champion TABC will host West #3 seed SAR at 7:00.
The championship for both leagues will take place on March 23rd at Lawrence Middle School.
Before we switch over to basketball, we would to wish the best of luck to Noam and SAR who will play next Monday night for the NJ Junior High hockey championship in Frisch at 7:45 pm.
On the hardwood,
The varsity final 4 is as follows: Eastern Champion North Shore will battle West #2 Heschel tonight AT 8:15 in North Shore. The Stars earned their way into the semis after the wild finish with TABC that we discussed last week, while Heschel overpowered Flatbush 50-38. In the other semifinal, tomorrow night at 8:45, West Champion Ramaz will host East #2 seed HAFTR. Both teams breezed through the quarters, defeating YDE and SAR respectively.
