Thanks Nachum,
It’s a two-act Tuesday for me here on JM in the AM, which fits the theme of the day pretty well, it seems. Straight ahead on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, repeats, three-peats and…5-peats? All that and more straight ahead, good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
We start out in Boys Volleyball where the championship streak continues for the Ramaz Rams. In a battle of 2nd seeds, the West #2 Ramaz seed defeated East #2 North Shore 3 sets to 1 to capture their 5th straight crown, a streak that lasts all the way back to 2018 and is currently the longest in Yeshiva sports. Not far behind them, though, are the Girls Hockey Frisch Cougars who now stand tied for the longest active Girls championship streak with HANC Volleyball as Frisch notched their 3rd straig championship, taking out Ramaz for the 2nd year in a row, with a 2-1 win. Scoreless into the 3rd, Gaby Hoffer put Frisch on the board 30 seconds into the final frame. Ramaz would tie it up on a Livy Zwillinger shot a few minutes later, but with just over a minute to go, Gabriella Butler sealed the deal for the Cougars locking down the crown.
Moving over to Soccer where new blood raised banners for the most part. Frisch took home their first Boys Varsity Soccer trophy since 2022, capping off a perfect season, defeating SAR 9-6. SAR would find themselves on the losing end of three soccer finals, unfortunately, as the boys JV championship went to Heschel by a 10-6 margin, and the JV Girls fell 6-4 to Frisch, the only repeat champion on the pitch. Frisch would sweep the Girls Soccer session as their varsity squad took out East top seed SKA 5-1 to round out the Spring Indoor seasons.
This leaves only the diamond sports on the docket. Boys Varsity Softball has half of its finals determined as Hillel knocked off two East opponents, a 2-1 extra-inning affair over MAY and an 11-4 drubbing of DRS in the semifinals. The Heat will now await the winner of the other semifinal between YDE and defending champion Netzach HaTorah, each taking 9-1 wins over Heichel HaTorah and Darchai Torah, respectively. And in Baseball, Frisch continues their run for a 4th straight championship, advancing in the first all-West semifinal, defeating MTA 1-0. They’ll await the winner of fellow West squads SAR and TABC to determine their final opponent.
