Thanks Nachum,
Straight ahead on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, a trio of Frisch Cougar squads have punched their tickets to the finals after Route-4 Rivalry match-ups, but wont find out their opponent until this week. All that and more straight ahead, good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
We start out in Girls Hockey, where Frisch will be defending their crown following a narrow 1-0 win over Route-4 Rival Ma’ayanot. They will await the winner of this Sunday’s contest between East champion HAFTR and Ramaz. The two met last year in the semifinals, which resulted in a thrilling overtime battle ultimately won by the Rams. The Girls Soccer squad finds themselves in the same situation, having, knocked off the Rapids 4-0, ensuring that there will be new “Queens” of the court this year, whether it be Frisch, or the winner of the Kushner-SKA matchup next Wednesday and the Boys Soccer top seed Cougars will also be in the same boat having trounced TABC 10-3 and will await the winner of the all-west battle between SAR and Kushner this coming Thursday night. Quickly recapping JV, the girls Cougar squad will not get their Route-4 Rivalry final after Ma’ayanot fell to SAR 14-12. The Cougars, the top seed, will host the Sting once the finals are scheduled. Not all was positive in Cougar-land this week, though, as the boys’ JV squad fell short of the finals, losing to West top seed Heschel 15-10. The Heat will await the winner of next Wednesday’s contest between HAFTR and SAR.
Heading back to the diamond sports, in Boys Softball, defending champion Netzach Hatorah put the finishing touches on their late surge back to the top of the East, shutting out Nishmas 10-0. They join YDE and Hillel, the Central and West division champions, all three at 7-1. Behind them at 6-2 are DRS, Shaare Torah and Heichel Hatorah, with Darchai Torah and MAY at 5-3 wrapping up the final wildcard spots for the postseason.
Finally, in Baseball, the West has finished their slate with Frisch, SAR and MTA all locking up automatic playoff slots. Kushner and TABC currently sit at 4-4 and await the results of the East where DRS or Flatbush may throw a wrench into the post-season plans.
