Thanks Nachum!
It’s playoff season here at the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update. One Boys league and one girls league have already kicked off their postseason with most first round matchups concluding before the end of the week. We’ll catch you up on all of the action, straight ahead. Good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
The only boys playoff results so far belong to varsity hockey as last night saw both 3-6 games in action. Out West, 3rd seed Frisch blitzed Ramaz, opening up a 5-0 lead at the end of the first period, cruising to a 6-1 victory. Frisch’s win sets the bracket for Western teams as the Cougars are guaranteed to face East #2 HANC in the quarters with the winner to take on West #1 TABC and the winner of East 4TH seed Flatbush and 5th seed North Shore taking place Wednesday night. This is also set in stone as East 3rd seed HAFTR outlasted YDE 2-0 last night to advance to take on West #2 SAR with the winner to meet East #1 DRS or the winner of tonight’s West 4-5 contest between Kushner and MTA.
JV Hockey is on hiatus and will see their matchups happen on the other side of President’s Week break.
Varsity Basketball will see its first round kick off tonight with the East 4-5 contest between Flatbush and YDE. The other East matchup will see Magen David host HAFTR tomorrow night, the same night that Frisch travels to West #3 Hillel. The remaining West contest between Ramaz and SAR will take place next Thursday night.
JV Basketball will similarly kick off tonight with Hillel traveling to JEC for the West 3-6 contest while the 4-5 game between SAR and TABC will happen next Wednesday. Out East, the quarterfinals participants will be determined Thursday night when #6 North Shore meets HANC and #4 Magen David hosts YDE.
In other basketball action, girls varsity has kicked off their postseason with a string of quarterfinal matchups starting with West champion SAR taking out East #4 Flatbush 47-34. The Sting will await the winner of East #2 SKA and West #3 Ilan on Thursday. On the other side of the bracket, East #3 Ramaz will travel to defending champion Frisch tonight with the chance to advance to take on either East champion North Shore or West #4 Kushner, that matchup taking place tomorrow.
Finally, the group that will know their finals participants the earliest of any league, JV Girls Basketball will see both semifinals played this week as three-time defending champion #2 Frisch hosts Hillel tonight and Regular Season champion Maayanot will battle HAFTR tomorrow night.
And that was your JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
