Thanks Nachum!
Straight ahead on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, we cruise into winter break on a shortened week, but the playoff picture becomes more clear. All that and more, good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
Only three hockey games on the week, all in varsity. YDE keeps themselves in the mix for the final East playoff spot, downing Solomon Schechter. Now at 5-7 the Thunder are tied with Flatbush and sit two games behind Magen David with the Warriors facing its two Brooklyn foes to end off the season. Out West, all 5 playoff spots have now been earned with Frisch knocking off Ohr Yisroel last night. This combined with SAR’s win over JEC has given TABC, Kushner, the Cougars, the Sting and MTA the 5 spots out West. Where each one slots is up for grabs on the other side of the break.
In Varsity Basketball, TABC and Ramaz continue their battle at the top of the West, both advance to 9-2 with wins over SAR and MTA respectively. The Storm rode 18 points from Ayden Gurin to outlast the Sting 47-46. Both now sit right behind 10-3 Frisch, but Ramaz has the chance to take the outright lead in the division with a win over Ohr Yisroel tonight. Ohr Yisroel will look to take another step toward clinching a playoff berth, a situation that has been prolonged by JEC who upended HAFTR 68-56 to keep alive at 6-6. Out East Magen David moves a win away from clinching the East with a 49-42 win over North Shore and DRS clinched a playoff berth with a 9 point win over YDE.
In Boys JV Basketball, DRS wraps ups the East and stays undefeated downing Westchester and out West, SAR stays in the race for the top spot, downing TABC by 12. The Sting will look to keep it up tonight against Ramaz. The Rams look to rebound from a loss to Hillel who have wrapped up at least the 3 seed with an 8-2 record. The 6 point loss for the Rams drops them into a tie with TABC. A loss by Ramaz tonight would drop them to 5-5 and lock them into the 5th slot securing a first round date with TABC in Teaneck once the post-season begins.
We hope that everyone enjoys their winter break and rests up for the mad dash to the postseason that will ensue on the other side. The Sports Update will be on break as well and will return in two weeks to once again bring you all the latest scores and standings around the Yeshiva League.
And that was your Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
