Thanks Nachum!
Welcome back everyone to another season of the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update! As we enter December, we stand squarely in the middle of several extremely tight races in hockey and basketball. We’ll take you through all the latest, straight ahead. Good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg
We’ll start out in boys varsity basketball, where the Flatbush Falcons continue their torrid streak through the first half of the season. The Falcons upped their record to a perfect 7-0, dealing losses to SAR, YDE and DRS over the past week and now gear up for a showdown with rival Magen David this coming Motzai Shabbos. The game was set to be billed as a “Battle of the Undefeated,” until Frisch changed plans this past Sunday, knocking off the Warriors 62-46 to drop Magen David to 6-1. The Cougars, themselves now sit at 6-1, having rebounded from their lone loss to Western Division-leading Ramaz last Wednesday night. In other action, the rough times continue for defending champion North Shore as the Lions are still winless at 0-4 after losing a tough battle with TABC 51-38 and HAFTR takes two wins on the week to improve to 5-1.
Moving over to JV Basketball where the four remaining undefeated teams each picked up wins this week. Magen David downed North Shore 65-40 to improve to an East- best 4-0, while DRS knocked off HAFTR 69-47 to jump to 3-0. Out West, Ari Halpert’s 13 points paced SAR to its 4th win, 59-28 over Heschel, and Hillel topped MTA 53-36. In other action, in a rematch of last year’s JV final, TABC once again knocked off Ramaz, this time by the score of 55-51. Both teams sit right behind the undefeated in the division, with Ramaz at 4-1 and TABC at 3-1.
In Varsity Hockey, DRS remains undefeated, defeating Frisch on the road on Sunday. Moshe Aryeh’s goal late in the first period stood up as the only tally of the night in the Wildcats 1-0 victory to improve to 7-0. They are one of two teams left undefeated in Varsity Hockey, as HANC currently sits behind them at 6-0. The Hurricanes knocked off HAFTR 4-3 on Motzai Shabbos courtesy of Ilan Kogel’s two scores. Both DRS and HANC have one more contest prior to squaring off against each other on December 18th. In other action, Rambam continues their hot streak, knocking off Flatbush last night 7-5 to take their 7th win overall and 5th in a row. And Kushner continues their give-and take-season, defeating Hillel 2-0 to improve to 4-4. Coming up tonight will be the eagerly anticipated rematch between Frisch and TABC in TABC for control of the Western Division. Frisch took the first contest back in early November, 4-3, but a TABC win would open a 2-game cushion and remove the Cougars tiebreak advantage. That game will start at 7PM.
Finally, in JV hockey, only two contests on the past week. TABC and Ramaz tied at 2 apiece. The tie puts the defending champion Storm in a strange position, sitting at 6 points with a record of 2-2-2, tied in a pack of teams that have all played less games, with easier schedules remaining, and only four contests to go, 3 of which are against SAR, Frisch and DRS, none of whom have dropped a contest on the season. SAR took the other contest on the week, topping HAFTR 4-2, to improve to 5-0.
And that was your Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
