Thanks Nachum!
Playoff time is back in the yeshiva League and we are only a few short weeks away from crowning our Spring Champions. Today on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, two Ramaz teams celebrate making the playoffs in entirely different fashions, a final already set in Girls JV Soccer, a major upset in Boys JV Soccer and the top seeds open up play in Varsity Soccer. All that and more straight ahead, good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
In Volleyball, Ramaz completes the undefeated regular season, and will join SAR in the semifinals awaiting the winner of tonight’s matchup between DRS and Magen David and the other quarterfinal where Flatbush will host North Shore. The Wildcats and Warriors will meet up for the second time in a week. Last week the Warriors jumped out to a 2 games to 0 advantage and were only points away from a sweep before DRS took over, won the 3rd set and held Magen David to only 8 points in each of sets 4 and 5 for the 3-2 victory.
In Girls Hockey, Central could not seal the deal on a playoff berth, losing identical 5-0 results to SKA and Ramaz on consecutive nights. As a result, Ramaz jumps the Wildcats gaining the 6 seed and a date with 3rd seed SAR in Riverdale on Thursday night. The 4 vs 5 matchup will happen tonight as Heschel travels to Kushner. Frisch and HAFTR await the winners in the semifinals.
In Boys Varsity Soccer, SAR opened the playoffs as the 1 seed knocking off 8 seeded Kushner 16-7. They will now await the winner of tomorrow night’s contest between Frisch and HANC. It will be one of three contests on the night as the other half of the bracket Ramaz and North Shore and DRS and TABC will take place meaning that we will know our semifinal participants by Thursday morning.
In Boys JV, an Overtime upset as North Shore downs top seed Frisch 6-5. Their finals opponent will be determined tonight as SAR and TABC meet up in TABC.
A close call in Girls Varsity as Frisch eeked out a 4-3 win over Maayanot to advance to meet up with the winner of tonight’s Kushner- Heschel matchup and SKA blitzed Ramaz and now awaits the winner of North Shore and SAR tomorrow night. Meanwhile, in JV, Frisch and Maayanot each put up 7 spots in their semifinal matchups and will meet up in the championship.
Meanwhile in Boys Softball, MAY did clinch the top seed, sweeping Darchai and will be joined in the post season by Hillel, YDE and HANC with 8 games left this week to decide the remainder of the post-season participants.
The 2023 Martin Weiselberg Memorial Junior High Hockey Tournament has been announced for Sunday June 11th in HAFTR. The 8 team field will include the host Hawks, HANC, HALB, Har Torah, Yavneh, SAR, Moriah and Noam. The kids will once again be raising $10,000 for Hatzolah.
