Thanks Nachum!
Happy 2-22-22 everyone! As we roll out of President’s Day, the Yeshiva League has wrapped up its Fall and Winter regular seasons. All hockey and basketball playoff matchups are set and we’ll take you through all of them straight ahead on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update. Good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
Boys Varsity Basketball saw a potentially messy situation alleviated when Flatbush, Magen David and Waterbury each picked up wins, avoiding a possible 5-way tie for seeds 2-6. As a result of their victories over HANC, Heschel and Magen Abraham, respectively, the three teams finish at 9-5 with easy tiebreaks behind East #1 DRS. The Falcons will join the Wildcats with a bye while #3 Magen David will meet up with #6 Magen Abraham tomorrow night and #4 Waterbury will host #5 YDE. The winners of those contests will head West to meet up with either #1 SAR or #2 Ramaz. Meanwhile heading East will be the winner of tomorrow night’s contest featuring #3 TABC and #6 Hillel and next Thursday night’s contest between #4 Frisch and #5 MTA. The Cougars earned the right to host their first-round contest following a 54-49 win over TABC last week.
In JV Basketball, Flatbush earned the East #1 seed, defeating HAFTR 45-40 and winning the tiebreak over Magen David who will slot in as the East #2 seed. Flatbush will await Thursday night’s play-in round game between SAR and JEC for the West #4 seed, while Magen David will host West #3 TABC next Thursday. The Storm were able to avoid the play-in round with wins over Frisch and Kushner on consecutive nights. The Cougars entered that matchup already having the West top seed locked up and will square off with East #4 DRS tomorrow night. The final first round matchup will feature West 2nd seed Ramaz hosting East #3 North Shore. That game will take place next Tuesday night.
Moving over to hockey, where Boys varsity ended the season with some mostly expected results. TABC took 2 wins on the week to wrap up the West #1 seed and will square off with #4 Rambam on Sunday night. The winner will meet up with the winner of tomorrow night’s matchup between East #2 HANC and West #3 MTA out in Uniondale. MTA finished in the 3 seed by virtue of Frisch’s win over JEC. The win earned the West #2 spot for Frisch, who will face off with East #3 Magen David tonight, where the winner will meet up with either East #1 DRS or West #4 SAR who will meet up next Monday night.
In JV Hockey, the final piece of the puzzle was determined Wednesday night as Kushner defeated MTA to clinch the West #2 seed and eliminate the Lions from playoff contention. Kushner will now host East #3 Rambam this coming Monday night with the winner to face East #1 DRS, while in the other bracket West #1 TABC will await this Saturday night’s contest between East #2 HAFTR and West #3 Frisch.
