Good Morning Nachum!
The Indoor Spring Regular Season has come to a conclusion. Straight ahead on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, we’ll give you the rundown of the final week and catch you up on what the postseasons have in store. Good Morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
In Girls Hockey, the Ramaz Rams and SAR Sting have won the West and East divisions, respectively. SAR clinched the top spot by virtue of a 3-2 overtime win over HAFTR this past week to leave HAFTR squarely in 2nd. The Rams also needed overtime, but would wind up in a 0-0 tie with Kushner as both teams gear up for the playoffs. Joining those 4 will be Heschel who will host HAFTR and Frisch who will travel to face Kushner.
The Ramaz Boys Volleyball team will also enjoy a bye, taking the regular season crown after SAR defeated North Shore in straight sets last night. Ramaz finishes undefeated at 8-0 with North Shore right behind them in 2nd place. North Shore already knows who their semifinals opponent will be as Flatbush, the 3 seed, kicked off the playoffs last night with a 3 sets to 1 win over YDE. Ramaz will take on the winner of DRS and SAR, that game, TBA.
In Boys Varsity Soccer the East Division was also decided on a tie as DRS and North Shore squared 6-6. The deadlock gives the division to the Wildcats, but will force them into the 3rd seed as they will finish behind SAR and Frisch, winners of the Central and West respectively. SAR eked out an 8-7 victory over Heschel to finish the season with Junior Gabe Duerr finishing off the double-hat trick with the game-winner and Frisch downed Kushner 9-5.
Speaking of Frisch, the JV Cougars finished off their season undefeated with an 8-4 win over the Cobras. TABC, SAR and North Shore will finish in order behind them.
In Girls Varsity, SKA, SAR and Kushner each go 8-0 to top their respective divisions and in Girls JV a virtual tie at the top as Frisch and Ma’ayanot each finish at 7-1, each taking their only losses on the season to each other.
For the first time since 2019, the Martin Weiselberg Memorial Junior High Hockey Tournament will take place. The 8-team event, once again a fundraiser for Hatzolah will take place June 12th in HAFTR. Stay tuned for more details, including the participating schools, over the coming weeks.
