Rabbi Benjamin Yudin, spiritual leader of Congregation Shomrei Torah in Fairlawn, New Jersey, called in to JM in the AM to discuss the Torah portion of the week. This week Rabbi Yudin discussed parshas Vayeshev and the upcoming observance of Chanukah, elaborating on the Torah portion and various laws & customs of the Holiday. Rabbi Yudin emphasized the spiritual nature of the threat the Jewish people faced in the times of Chanukah as opposed to the physical threat they faced in the times of Purim. Therefore, we do not specifically have a mitzvah of making a special meal for the Holiday as we do for Purim.
