Thank you Nachum. Coming up on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, Monday night set the JV Hockey world on fire, the first playoff spot of the 2014-2015 Yeshiva League Season is clinched, and the JV basketball world gets set for the Hausdorf Tournament. Good Morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
Monday night featured two battles of the undefeateds in the JV hockey world as Flatbush traveled to Rambam in Eastern Conference action and SAR traveled to Frisch on the Western side. We start out in the West where Frisch at 4-0 came in having outscored their opponents by a combined 45-1. SAR at 3-0 on the other hand, had not given up a goal all season. Neither team were able to keep a zero on the board in this one as the Sting upset the Cougars 5-3. SAR Freshman Gordie Kolb notched four goals, while fellow offenseman Solomon Freilich added one in the victory. This leaves SAR as the only undefeated team in the West, but not the only one in JV Hockey as they join Rambam who knocked off Flatbush 3-0 in Rambam last night. The Battle of the Birds between the 5-0 Ravens and the 4-0 Falcons, despite the final result, was a game worthy of the two teams’ records. The game stayed scoreless through the first period with Flatbush’s Aaron Kubie and Rambam’s Daniel Petrikovsky going save for save. But mid-way through the second, a missed hand-pass call led to a goal as Avi Orlow put home the first goal of them game. The Falcons stayed in the game but could not equalize and found themselves down two when Noah Schwartz ripped home Rambam’s second goal of the game. A minute later, Orlow would add his second, capping off the scoring and keeping Rambam in the driver’s seat for the Eastern Conference.
In other hockey news from the past week of action in JV, Ramaz downs JEC 2-1 and in varsity action, SAR downed MTA 3-1.
In varsity basketball action this week, North Shore began the rebound from their loss to HAFTR with wins over Derech Hatorah and HANC and in JV TABC knocked off Kushner 51-34. Also in JV, Frisch becomes the first team to top the 80-point mark on the year, scoring 81 in their victory over JEC.
Coming up this week will be the 2014 Hausdorf Tournament at Yeshiva of Flatbush. The tournament, starting this Thursday and continuing with a shabbaton through the weekend, is held in memory of former Flatbush General Studies Principal Thomas Hausdorf. Participating in the event will be Junior Varsity squads from Yeshiva of Flatbush, Cooper, Akiva Day School of Detroit and Weinbaum Yeshiva High School of Boca Raton. For more information, including a schedule of the event, please log on to www.FlatbushFalcons.com.
And finally, it’s only December 2nd, but we already have our first playoff ticket punched! Congratulations to the Maayanot JV Basketball Rapids on clinching with their 46-25 win over Kushner on Sunday. With the win, Maayanot improves to 6-1, three games in the win column over second place SAR.
