Thanks Nachum,
Alright parents, by a show of hands, how many of us were looking forward to the kids going back to school this week? Yeah, my hand is raised also, but I’m thinking for an entirely different reason. The end of vacation generally means the final push to playoff time, but looking out the window, I think the only thing being pushed is a snowblower. So, if the snow is going to keep us indoors for a while, what better way to pass the time than with Yeshiva League Action, so let’s kick off another edition of the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update. I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
As the old saying goes, “Man Plans and G-d Laughs.” Just when we thought Winter Vacation was over, we get an extra few days as teams now go scrambling to reschedule the second to last week of the regular seasons because of the inclement weather. How this will impact the time-frame for the playoffs is not presently known, but we hope to have a full rundown on the Court Report for you this Sunday night. Obviously, because of the storm, the games of note that were supposed to be played last night did not happen, meaning that we only have two scores to recap for you, both of them being SAR and Heschel basketball scores from last week.
In varsity basketball, the Heat and Sting faced on Wednesday night with playoff implications on the line for both. Heschel, a game behind TABC in the loss column, looking to keep pace in the race for the 2nd bye slot in the West and SAR, at 4-7 needing to win out to make the post-season. Down 17 at one point, the Sting battled back, holding the Heat without a field goal for the entire 4th quarter. Unfortunately, the deficit was too much for the Sting as Heschel would inch just out of their reach on free-throws by the score of 54-52, ending SAR’s post-season hopes. Sam Lippman led the game for the Heat with 18 points. Heschel’s run for the 2 seed is now very much alive. To find out what the Heat, and all other teams still fighting for playoff positioning, need to reach their goal, tune in to tonight’s encore presentation of the Court Report at7PM on the Stream.
The two schools would square off again the very next night in JV action. The first-quarter would be back and forth with SAR taking a small lead early until Jonathan Mack and Ilan Orgel shifted the score into Heschel’s favor to end the first quarter. The Heat would take small leads into the half and again into the 4th quarter, but in the final frame, SAR’s offense would wake up in major fashion. The Sting’s Daniel Wisotsky would nail 2 clutch 3-pointers to wrest the lead away, and the Sting would outscore Heschel 17-5 in the quarter to close out a 40-30 victory that keeps them in the drivers seat in the battle for the top spot in the JV West.
Want more Yeshiva League news? Tune in tonight to the encore presentation of the Court Report on the Nachum Segal Network. This week, we went through basketball’s post-season possibilities and took a look at what should have been the week’s schedule in hockey, which, obviously is now moot. All this and more tonight at 7PM on the stream, Nachumsegal.com.
And that was your Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m going to be stuck in my house for the next month.
