Thanks Nachum! Straight ahead on your Tuesday morning JM in the AM update, Ramaz, SAR, Frisch and Heschel fight away the “No-Vacation Blues” with Yeshiva League action. Good Morning I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
While the majority of the Metropolitan area is away on vacation, there are a select few schools still open and taking advantage of the opportunity to get some Yeshiva League games in.
Over the week, all 4 Ramaz boys teams finished up their regular seasons and all on extended losing streaks. In hockey, the JV squad finished off their regular season losing 9-2 in SAR as part of a 3-game losing streak and will miss the post-season for the second consecutive year.
In varsity hockey, the Rams had the opportunity to clinch a playoff berth with two games over the week, but fell way short on both, losing 6-1 to Frisch and 5-0 to SAR. Jacob Unger scored twice for the Sting, Azriel Lavi, Jesse Schanzer and Sam Schwalbe each added one. Gil Fortgang posted the shutout. To find out what the ramifications of this loss are, tune in to the Court Report tonight at 7PM on the Nachum Segal Network where we covered all of the JV and Varsity Hockey playoff scenarios for the last few weeks of the 2014-2015 regular season.
In JV Basketball, the Rams dropped their 3rd loss in a row by being edged out by Heschel 46-43, avenging a 26 point blowout at the hands of the Rams earlier this season. The win keeps Heschel’s playoff hopes alive while Ramaz now awaits to see what seed they will hold in the playoffs.
At least the JV knows that they will be in the post-season. The Varsity basketball team will now need to wait and see what happens with the rest of the West as they drop their second in a row and 5 in their last 6 to land at 7-7 with a 60-42 loss at the hands of SAR. A Ramaz win would have eliminated SAR from playoff contention and kept the Rams in the running for a first-round home game. Instead they will now need to wait to see whether they make the playoffs at all. To find out about your favorite JV or Varsity Basketball teams and what their post-season possibilities are, tune in to next week’s Court Report this coming Sunday.
Ramaz wasn’t the only team in action though and the Court Report covers all games from the past week. Tune in to find out their results as well as my issues with the latest Jewish Hoops America Top 25 Basketball poll and the fallout from last week’s Satran tournament.
And that was your Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
