Do not be confused ladies and gentlemen and do not adjust your radios, yes it is Wednesday, and yes this is still the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM report, and I’m still Elliot Weiselberg. Straight ahead on a special Wednesday edition of the sport report, with the holiday coming up and the “Court Report” on vacation this Sunday, waiting one more day to give you all of the pre-holiday action just seemed like a nice Chanukah gift, so let’s go ahead and unwrap these last three interesting days in the Yeshiva Sports World.
Let’s start off in Varsity Basketball, where there were SEVEN games since Sunday, several with long-term division implications. In the first game of the week, SAR knocked off Hillel 54-33. The Sting led by Sammy Hyman’s 17 points, and Josh Deutsch’s 9 put the clamps down on Hillel, holding down the nation’s leading scorer, the Heat’s Nathan Bibi. The Sting’s swarming zone limited Hillel to 5 point in the second quarter while causing double-digit turnovers on the afternoon. The win marks SAR’s third in a row, while Hillel dropped to 2-5 and eventually 2-6 after falling to Frisch last night 54-45.
Flatbush split two, defeating Derech Hatorah 78-44 on Monday but falling to undefeated North Shore on Tuesday 51-45. Avery Lubin posted 15 for the Stars, notching his third straight double-digit game.
HAFTR edged TABC Monday night 42-40 on a tiebreaking shot by Alec Shonfeld with 2 seconds left.
And in the spotlight game of the week, Ramaz avenged their Magen David Tournament finals loss to Heschel, defeating the Heat 59-51. Senior Jamie Cappell had 17 for Ramaz in a game that saw Ramaz only up 1 with 3 minutes left before pulling away late with foul shots for the 8-point margin. Game-high scorer went to Senior Kevin Gindi of Heschel.
In JV,
The two undefeated teams that played stayed that way with Frisch dominating Hillel 70-41 and DRS sweeping HAFTR 51-34, while two previously winless teams got on the board with Ohr Hatorah and Rambam taking victories over Magen David and North Shore.
Moving over to hockey, where yet another stunner has impacted the Wild wild West. Frisch continues their slide dropping a 3-2 decision to Flatbush in Paramus Monday night. Down 1-0 early in the second, Freshman phenom Sam Laniado evened the game at one and sparked a three goal rally by the Falcons that held up due to the stellar goaltending of Stephen Esses. The win helps Flatbush stay two points ahead of Rambam who bounced back from their last minute loss to DRS with a dominating 12-5 victory over Magen David. Senior Akiva Hochbaum matched the league-high for the season with 6 goals.
Also, Ramaz defeated JEC 3-2 in overtime. The loss is JEC’s second overtime defeat on the year, and their 4th overall since defeating SAR to begin the season.
Finally in JV,
Rambam backs up their 3-1 victory over DRS on Sunday with a 10-1 drubbing of Magen David and Frisch rolls to a 6-1 win over Ramaz. Sophomore Jordan Socloff recorded a hat trick in the victory.
Due to the holidays, this Sunday’s Court Report will be on vacation, so have a wonderful holiday, and tune in on December 8th for all the latest news, standings and scores at 7pm on the Nachum Segal Network.
