Nachum welcomed Rabbi Dr. David Katz of Touro College of Dental Medicine to this morning’s JM in the AM for a fascinating look at dentistry in the context of Pesach. Dr. Katz is Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs, Associate Professor of Dental Medicine and Director of Halachic Dentistry for Touro as well as the author of Kesser Dovid – The Halachic Guide to Dentistry, which provides an in – depth analysis of the wide range of laws pertaining to the practice of Dentistry. They discussed a number of topics including:
- Can we kasher our teeth for Pesach?
- If not, what is the preferred way to clean them?
- What should be done with removable devices such as crowns, bridges, braces and retainers?
- Do you need a hechsher on flavored dental floss?
- Can that be used on pesach?
- What about tablets to clean dentures?
- Can those be used on pesach without a hechsher?
