It is finally here, ladies and gentlemen, the Yeshiva League Playoffs are upon us. Today, on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, six of the seven leagues have their playoff brackets determined. We’ll take you through all of them and cover a bit of how the last week helped them shake out. All that and more, straight ahead. Good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
In Varsity Hockey’s East, the 2nd seed was decided last week when HAFTR defeated Rambam, 4-2, behind 2 goals by Senior Defenseman Oren Goldberg. The win means that the Hawks join DRS as the East teams earning a bye slot into the Quarterfinals. Joining them from the West will be the division champion, SAR Sting, and the 2nd seed TABC Storm. In First-Round action, the East will see #3 Rambam hosting #6 HANC and #4 Solomon Schechter, in a Yeshiva League first, going on the road, as they have done all year, where #5 North Shore will host. In the West #3 MTA will meet up with #6 JEC, for the second week in a row, and #4 Frisch will battle against #5 Kushner.
In JV Hockey, the West was decided in a 3-0 win by TABC over Frisch, ending a 3-game winless streak against the Cougars. As a result TABC will now face the East #4 seed, Magen David. The winner of that game will face the winner of the East #2 HAFTR hosting West #3 SAR. In the other bracket East #1 Rambam will get West #4 Kushner, while Frisch as the West 2nd seed, will host East #3 DRS.
Varsity Basketball saw a preview of what could be on March 11th ,with SAR facing Frisch, this past week. The Sting rode an 11-2 run in the 2nd to take a 10-point advantage that they would never relinquish, en route to a 46-35 victory. It would all be for naught, though, as Frisch would defeat Heschel to earn the top spot in the West, with SAR as the #2. In the First-Round, #3 TABC will battle #6 Waterbury, while Heschel drops to 4th and will face #5 Ramaz. In the East, Magen David and DRS take the byes, while #3 Rambam takes on #6 Flatbush, and #4 HANC hosts #5 HAFTR.
Finally, in Girls Varsity A, the Ramaz Rams rode a win over Central, 47-35, straight to the Eastern Division title. As a result, the Rams will host West #4 Maayanot, with the winner taking on, either, West #2 Bruriah or East #3 Flatbush. In the other bracket, Undefeated West champion SAR takes on East #4 North Shore, with Central hosting West #3 Frisch.
