Thanks Nachum!
Six of the 10 spring sports have hit the bracket stages. Girls Hockey, Boys Volleyball, and all four Soccer Leagues are in “win or go home” mode, with the four diamond leagues soon to follow. Straight ahead on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, we reveal all of the post-season brackets, and set up the final week for the three softball leagues. All that and more, good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
We’ll start out in Boys Varsity Soccer where the MTA Lions completed the “Home and Home” sweep of Ramaz, 10-3, to stay undefeated, and earn the 2nd seed in the postseason. The win sets up a quarterfinal between the Lions and the 7th seed HANC Hurricanes in a rematch of last season’s semifinal, won by the Hurricanes in a rout. The Lions will look avenge themselves, tomorrow night. On the other side, the loss for the Ramaz Rams drops them to the 6th seed, forcing them to travel to East champion, DRS, on Thursday night, with the winner facing the winner of MTA-HANC. In the other half of the bracket, top ranked TABC and Flatbush squared off, last night, while North Shore will host JEC on Thursday.
The JV league will see six teams in the playoffs with Magen David, the 3 seed hosting HAFTR, tomorrow night, and SAR the 4 seed hosting Flatbush, on Thursday.
Girls Varsity Soccer will see top-seed, Maayanot, taking on Flatbush, tonight, with the winner to play the winner of Central-SAR, on Thursday, and Kushner hosts Ramaz, tomorrow night, with the winner facing the winner of Thursday’s battle, between North Shore and SKA.
Girl’s Varsity Hockey will kick off the postseason, tonight, with the two top seeds in competition. Kushner will host Central, while SAR will host Ramaz. In the battle between the top two seeds this past week, Kushner worked a 1-0 win, over SAR, to finish the season undefeated. Tomorrow night, Heschel will host North Shore, while Ma’ayanot travels to HAFTR.
On the diamond, Boys Varsity Softball will wrap up tomorrow night. Hillel and YDE have wrapped up their respective divisions, and have clinched playoff spots, along with Darchei, DRS and TABC. That will leave, Shaare Torah, MAY, SAR, JEC and Frisch to fight it out for the final three spots. Shaare Torah can wrap up their spot tonight with a win over Flatbush, while SAR can do the same, with a win over JEC. In JV, HAFTR, Shaare Torah, YDE and Frisch have clinched the top four spots in the postseason, while six teams are in the race for the final four berths. In Girls Softball, the East playoff spots have been determined, as Central, SKA, Flatbush and HANC will be in the postseason. Out West, Frisch, Ma’ayanot and Hillel have locked up tickets, while SAR and Bruriah will battle this week to help determine who earns that final spot.
Lastly, as we near the end of the school year, it’s time to announce the 2018 version of the Martin Weiselberg Memorial Junior High Hockey Tournament. The 13th tournament will take place Sunday June 17th in Yeshiva Har Torah, and will once again serve as a fundraiser for Hatzolah. This year’s raffle will include autographed jerseys, pucks and photos.
