Thanks Nachum!
Straight ahead on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update: A barn-burner between Frisch and TABC in Boys JV Soccer, Kushner gets back into the conversation in Girls Varsity Soccer and Hockey and TABC hits for the triple in Boys Varsity Softball. All that and more, coming right up! Good Morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
As promised last week, we kick off with Boys JV Soccer and the grudge match at the top of the West. TABC and Frisch both entered Thursday night’s contest at 4-0 with the edge to the top of the division in clear sight for the winner. On this night, it would be the visiting Frisch Cougars, but not without a fight from the Storm, as apparent by the 7-6 final. The Storm fall from the ranks of the undefeated, but not too far. Frisch and TABC have proven themselves to be the top of the division and it will likely come down to the rematch on May 2nd in Frisch to decide the war. In other action, the Cougars would continue their streak with a 10-3 win over SAR, while DRS took two, defeating HANC and Rambam on consecutive nights to remain undefeated in the East division. The Wildcats will now have their battle at the top tomorrow when they meet up with North Shore, with an identical 4-0 record. Also, as promised last week, Westchester continues to roll, clinching the Central title with wins over YDE and Flatbush
Speaking of DRS, the Wildcat varsity squad now remains the only Boys Varsity Soccer East undefeated team, after knocking off HANC 8-7.
Girls Varsity Soccer now has a little more company at the top, as 5 teams now sit at least at the 5 win mark. The latest to earn their way into the group, the Kushner Cobras. Kushner joins Ma’ayanot, North Shore, Central and Frisch, all with at least 10 points following Kushner’s 11-4 drubbing of Bruriah. The win is their 4th in a row since their only loss to Ma’ayanot who remains the only undefeated team left in the West. In other action, Central got their 5th win, but not without a potential upset scare. They narrowly escaped the battle of the Wildcats with winless Westchester, 11-10.
Following on with Kushner, we move over to Girls Hockey, where the Cobras have used an Eastern swing to rebound from their shutout loss to Heschel two weeks ago. In the last 10 days, Kushner has taken wins over cross-division opponents HAFTR, SAR and SKA to jump to 4-1, a win ahead of Heschel and Ramaz, despite both pulling down wins this week, Heschel, a 3-0 win over HAFTR and Ramaz, a 3-1 win over Frisch. Kushner can now clinch a playoff berth with either a win over Ramaz on Thursday or a Frisch loss to HANC tomorrow night. In Eastern Conference action, North Shore continued their winning ways, defeating HANC 7-0 and Central picked up their 2nd tie to a top Eastern opponent, squaring with SAR 3-3, as they battle with HANC, HAFTR and SKA for the likely remaining postseason berths.
Moving over to the diamond, where TABC opened up their season taking three games in four days, including a double-header over SAR last night. The Storm debuted with a 9-5 win over MTA on Friday and swept the Sting 8-4 and 12-7. As quick as it starts, it will near its end, though, as the Storm will play a double-header with JEC and Heichel HaTorah on Friday and a double-header with Hillel on Sunday, leaving only 1 game left on their calendar.
And that was your Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
