Thanks Nachum!
Good morning everyone! Today on an abbreviated Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, we wrap up the 2023-2024 sports season. I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
Our last two finals bring us to the diamond as the two varsity Softball championships wrap up our coverage. The Girl Varsity championship took place last Monday night with the West #2 and #3 seeds Bruriah and Ma’ayanot meeting up. The last time these two teams met, during the regular season, Bruriah cruised to a 6-0 victory. This contest could not be more different as scoring came in waves, with 16 runs crossing the plate, 9 of them, this time belonging to the victor, the Ma’ayanot Rapids. For Ma’ayanot, the 9-7 win adds to a legacy with a 2nd banner in the last three years and their 5th since 2015.
Contrast that to the Boys final, where two Long Island schools did battle and where runs came at a distinct premium. Darchai Torah and Netzach Hatorah were virtually tied at the hip all year, both finishing at 7-1, each taking a victory over the other by one run, both games on the same day 6 weeks ago. This game would have the same flair, but the final would be a larger result than the other 2 and distinctly one-sided. A year after the junior class took home the JV Softball championship with a shutout, Netzach HaTorah can add its first varsity softball championship to the rafters with a 3-0 victory.
And, while we did not cover it in-depth this year, congratulations to DRS and Frisch on winning the boys and girls Tennis championships respectively. For Frisch, it’s a 3-straight championship with a core group that has not tallied a loss since before Covid a stretch of 28 in a row.
On that note, this brings to a close the 2024 Spring season and the 2023-2024 school and sports year. A Yasher Koach to all the boys and girls that participated this year and a Mazal Tov to all of the graduates. Once again, a heartfelt thank you to Nachum and the JM in the AM and Nachum Segal Network family for helping bring to light the amazing efforts and accomplishments of all participants and giving a platform to share them with everyone. September is right around the corner and we cannot wait to join everyone in welcoming the 2024-2025 school year.
For all of us at JM in the AM, this has been the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m Elliot Weiselberg. Have a great summer!
