Thanks Nachum!
Good morning everyone! Today on an abbreviated Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, we wrap up the 2022-2023 sports season. I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
The final 4 championships took the field over the last 48 hours, with all diamond sports declaring winners. We’ll start off with Boys Varsity Softball where an old powerhouse has reclaimed their throne. One year after a shortened first-round exit, the Hillel Heat are once again on top of the Softball world, taking out last year’s champions MAY 3-1. The win marks Hillel’s first since 2018 and fourth in the last 8 seasons.
Contrast to that, JV Softball which saw a newcomer walk away with the top award. In only their first Yeshiva League season, Netzach HaTorah emerged victorious, blanking MAY 5-0. The Knights finished their first regular season with a record of 6-2 and outscored opponents 8-0 in their 3 playoff contests.
Finally, it was quite the Sunday for Frisch, starting out with the Girls Softball championship Sunday afternoon, which saw the Cougars knock off Hillel 6-4 only one year after the Cougars failed to qualify for the postseason. Then Sunday evening in the Baseball final, Frisch squared off with SAR in just about the most “2023” way possible, where the Cougars locked down an 8-6 victory to get the last word in on the school year. Sophomore Akiva Rotenberg took home MVP honors for both his day at the plate and on the mound, shutting down the Sting for a five-out save.
One last public service announcement, the HASC Hockey tournament will take place this Sunday in Teaneck, featuring 11 school alumni teams in a 12-team tournament to raise money for Camp HASC. Games will take place in TABC, Ma’ayanot, Noam and RYNJ throughout the day starting at 9am.
On that note, this brings to a close the 2023 Spring season and the 2022-2023 school and sports year. A Yasher Koach to all the boys and girls that participated this year and a Mazal Tov to all of the graduates. Once again, a heartfelt thank you to Nachum and the JM in the AM and Nachum Segal Network family for helping bring to light the amazing efforts and accomplishments of all participants and giving a platform to share them with everyone. September is right around the corner and we cannot wait to join everyone in welcoming the 2023-2024 school year.
For all of us at JM in the AM, this has been the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m Elliot Weiselberg. Have a great summer!
