Good Morning Nachum!
The Yeshiva League has returned from Pesach break and the calendar has turned to May, leaving just over a month and a half left of the 2022 Spring season. Straight ahead on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, two no-hitters thrown in Baseball, DRS continues to run away with Boys Soccer and the last undefeated team falls in Girls Hockey, Good Morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg
The Mets weren’t the only Metropolitan area team throwing a no-hitter this past week. In fact, the Yeshiva League, saw not one, but two no-hitters on the baseball diamond. The first came Thursday night as Yehuda Speyer struck out 17 North Shore batters en route to a 9-0 JEC win over the Stars. It was the first of two wins for the Thunder on the week also shutting out DRS on Sunday. The other No-Hitter on the week came last night, as MTA’s Gavriel Rudman blanked Kushner 6-0. MTA is also riding a shutout streak, as Rudman was on the mound on Friday as the Lions defeated DRS 10-0. Rudman had 12 strikeouts in the win, as the Lions lead the West with a 5-0 record. Also taking two wins on the week, Frisch, downing TABC 4-2 and doubling up Ramaz 8-4.
Girls Hockey has no more undefeated teams left as last night saw the last two remaining 0’s turn to 1’s in the loss column. Heschel saw its 5-0 record fall after getting run over by Kushner 7-0 in Kushner. Heschel still leads the West with 10 points, but join a group of Kushner, Frisch and Ramaz, all with 1 loss. Ramaz’s entry into the group brought us our second undefeated-no-more as the Rams downed SAR 2-1. SAR now finds itself tied atop the East with HAFTR at 4-1, both teams have one game between them and their head-to-head meeting in what will likely decide the division on May 11th. Also on the week, Central got their first win, defeating North Shore 5-2 and HANC defeated SKA 3-1.
Moving over to Soccer where DRS just keeps on kicking. The Wildcats picked up 3 wins, including 2 by identical 12-4 scores over Rambam and HANC. DRS is now 6-0 and have outscored their opponents 70-20, holding both the top spot in Goals Scored and Goal Differential thus far. Frisch and SAR have stayed undefeated as well. The Cougars defeated JEC and Hillel to stay a perfect 5-0 atop the West, 1 point ahead of TABC while the Sting downed Heschel 11-6 to improve to 3-0 in the Central.
Finally in Girls Soccer, DRS and SAR see their female counterparts still undefeated as SKA defeated HAFTR and the Sting blanked Central to both move to 5-0. But the top record goes to the Kushner Cobras who stand at 6-0 after narrowly escaping perennial powerhouse Ma’ayanot 7-6. The Rapids, sit behind them in the West with a record of 5-3.
