Thanks Nachum,
Today on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, as Thanksgiving approaches, we reflect on the things that we are thankful for this holiday. We asked three schools what the holiday means to them. For Kushner Varsity Basketball and JV and Varsity Hockey, it’s about being together at home. For TABC Varsity Hockey, it’s about extra time spent with friends and family. And for HAFTR JV Basketball, it’s all about the bird. All that and more, straight ahead. Good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
Last night, Kushner reminded us about the joys of having everyone all under one roof. The school became a sports haven Monday night as it hosted 6 events over the course of the night. The evening kicked off with a wrestling meet against Frisch and continued with a Girls Varsity Volleyball match against Bruriah and a Girls Varsity Basketball match against Hillel. That was only the half of it. The showcase of night featured the Boys Varsity Basketball battle against Hillel and the Hockey doubleheader with Magen David. For the boys in blue, it was a night to rejoice. All three teams emerged victorious, all taking double digit victories over their opponents. The Basketball and Varsity Hockey squads see their records even out at 2-2 and 3-3 respectively, while JV Hockey takes over first place in the Western Conference at 7 points.
This past Motzai Shabbos, TABC showed us the value of spending more time than usual with the people that you love. The TABC Varsity Hockey Storm traveled to Riverdale to take on the SAR Sting with two undefeated records on the line. SAR came in at 4-0, while TABC entered at 3-0, but by the end of the night, only one of those perfect records could remain intact. The Storm would take the lead halfway through the first on a goal by senior Efraim Tiger and would hold the lead almost halfway through the third when SAR senior Shua Friedman netted home the equalizer. Back and forth the action went as the clock wound down but there would be no resolution as the game was sent to Overtime. As the puck dropped on the extra session, we were also reminded about catching up with the junior members of the family who are always just full of surprises. TABC would start their third line, Juniors Eli Schiff and Elli Spinowitz and it would take only 22 seconds before the speedy duo caught SAR as Spinowitz popped the ball home for the 2-1 OT victory.
Finally, over the past week, HAFTR reminded us, that sometimes, the holiday really is just about the bird. But, this is not about a turkey. The HAFTR Hawks JV Basketball team has churned out of the gate, finishing the first half of their season with a 5-0 record. In the last month, HAFTR has basted YDE, stuffed EZRA, mashed HANC, trimmed defending champion Magen David and last week, the Hawks roasted the Flatbush Falcons by the score of 45-31. However, HAFTR’s biggest challenge will come tonight in the form of the DRS Wildcats who also stand undefeated. That game will take place tonight at 7PM in DRS, where only one of these two teams will be left uneaten…er…unbeaten.
