Thanks Nachum,
We are in the deciding weeks of the Spring sport regular seasons, with playoffs on the horizon. Straight ahead on the Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, SKA and Frisch own Girls Varsity Soccer’s top seeds, while the Boys will see both of their division crowns up for grabs this week, and Solomon Schechter takes the East by Storm in Boys Volleyball. All that and more straight ahead, good morning, I’m Elliot Weiselberg.
We start off with Boys Varsity Soccer where both divisions will come down to one game this week. We’ll start out West where tomorrow night will see two 7-0 teams Frisch and SAR do battle in SAR. It’ll be Frisch’s third game already in the month, having dominated Kushner last Thursday and TABC last night. Meanwhile, out East, DRS and North Shore will square off Thursday night. The Wildcats are currently 6-0 with a game against YDE tonight, meanwhile North Shore is not far off, having played Flatbush last night. All four teams know what home court advantage will mean in a deep playoff run and want to avoid having to go on the road with a ticket to the finals on the line. In other action, TABC still took two wins on the week, taking one-goal contests over Kushner and Ramaz, and Westchester cemented their playoff berth with two wins over Rambam and HANC.
In Girls Varsity Soccer, no such drama as both divisions have already been decided. In the East, SKA has had the top seed locked up with North Shore and Central behind them and HAFTR and HANC fighting for the final playoff spot. Out West, Ma’ayanot’s 7-6 overtime win over Kushner on Sunday ensures that Frisch has the top seed locked up even before they play their 8th and final game against the Rapids tonight. The remainder of the division itself has been determined as well as Kushner will take the 2, Maa’yanot the 3 and SAR the 4.
Moving over to Girls Softball where HAFTR and HANC are locked in a battle with each other with only a handful of games standing between their matchup that will likely determine the division. The Hawks are 5-0 and will face North Shore tonight and Flatbush next Monday before their contest with HANC next Tuesday. HANC at 5-0-1 will square off with Shulamith on Friday, but all parties expect next Tuesday night to determine the East. Out West, Ma’ayanot at 5-0 will face the only other undefeated West team, Na’aleh, who is only just now starting their season, currently at 1-0, while hoping for a slip-up is 4-1 Hillel.
Also, Solomon Schechter has wrapped up the East crown in Boys Volleyball taking a straight set win over Magen David to improve to 7-0. The Storm have dropped only 3 sets in the 7 games that they’ve played so far.
Finally preparations are moving along for the 18th annual Martin Weiselberg Memorial Junior High Hockey Tournament on June 15th in HAFTR with its goal of raising $10,000 for Hatzolah. We are just days away from announcing our amazing raffle prizes and are looking for event sponsors to help us reach our goal. Anyone interested in sponsoring can reach out to us at MWTournament@gmail.com.
And that was your Tuesday Morning JM in the AM Sports Update, I’m Elliot Weiselberg
