Nachum interviewed Rabbi Shmuel Friedman about the “45 Sefrei Torah for the 45 Neshamos” Charidy campaign going on now.
From the Charidy campaign site:
The moment is etched in everyone’s memory, never to be forgotten. At first, we would not believe the reports hoping that there was some error, an innocent mix-up, or premature speculation. But as the facts started trickling in, our hearts collectively shattered.
45 souls taken from this world!
An unbelievable tragedy!
Forty-five is not just a number; each one represents a whole world. Dreams, hopes, and their entire lives ahead of them, all lost.
45 souls taken before their prime!
Forty-five families have had their lives turned upside down. Children left without a parent, wives without their spouse, parents have lost their progeny. We all mourned together, but can we even begin to fathom the pain?
The 45 families of the Kedoshai Meron want to start healing.
Fathers, wives, children are hoping to bring peace to the Neshamos.
They are eager to find any condolence after the terrible tragedy in Meron.
What better way than the holy Torah.
Hashem, in his omnipresent mercy, has granted us the greatest gift. All Klal Yisrael is connected with that one scroll. Each letter represents another Neshama. Every Yid in his time of need has approached the Aron Kodesh and poured out his heart to those holy letters. The manifestation of our relationship with the creator of the world.
45 Sefrei Torah for the 45 Neshamos.
We all felt the shockwaves of the calamity and mourned along with loved ones of those lost.
We will not abandon them now, and we will create an everlasting memory for these souls and bring some comfort to the families.
Not only one Sefer Torah, which will include all the families. But each Neshama will be represented with their own Sefer. We cannot bring them back, but we can establish an eternal salve for their souls. Our sages teach us that the Torah even heals those that are already in the world to come.
Each family will receive a Sefer Torah L’uli Neshmas, their loved one.
The Sefer will bring the families some comfort and be an everlasting legacy for the Kedoshim.
Together we mourned!
Together we will heal!
Not all of the families have the means to write their own Sefer Torah. So Klal Yisrael will be there for them. Together we will raise the money to dedicate a Sefer for every Neshama. Together we will console the families with a tribute that will live on for eternity.
Every Yid $45!
With a dollar for each Neshama, we can make this happen!
Gedolai HaRabbanim will oversee the objective to ensure that all the funds go toward writing the Sefrei Torah and will be written according to all stringencies.
In the Zechus of writing the Sefrei Torah, uniting to create a legacy for the Neshamos and bring comfort to the families, we should be Zoche to Bracha and Hatzlacha. Hashem should bring the final redemption, and may we never again hear of such tragedies.
